Where Education, History & Preservation Come Together!

The Delaware River & Bay Lighthouse Foundation is an all-volunteer organization that serves as the caretaker for two of Delaware's nine remaining historic lighthouses...Harbor of Refuge Lighthouse and Delaware Breakwater East End.

What We Do...

Through the financial support of individuals & businesses, DRBLHF volunteers care for these three historic lighthouses through preservation efforts and conduct public tours of the Harbor of Refuge and Delaware Breakwater East End lighthouses.

The DRBLHF also "brings the lighthouse" to the community through diverse educational programming for school groups, seniors and civic organizations throughout Delaware.

Help Support Our Efforts!

Only by your support is the DRBLHF able to save these historic lighthouses and interpret them for generations

Preservation Efforts

Saving Delaware’s historic lighthouses is a complex challenge that the Delaware River & Bay Lighthouse Foundation relishes. Before an organization can be successful at lighthouse preservation, it must be able to build an infrastructure capable of sustaining such a demanding endeavor. The DRBLHF strongly believes that through a combination of volunteerism, community fundraising, legislative support, partnership-building and adherence to preservation guidelines, together we can all make a difference with ensuring the preservation of Delaware’s lighthouse heritage for future generations.

DRBLHF members are provided with monthly hands-on opportunities to participate in a variety of maintenance and rehabilitation projects at Harbor of Refuge, Liston Range Rear and Delaware Breakwater East End lights. Whether the volunteers are skilled craftsmen or simply people with a desire to give back to Delaware’s historic lighthouses, there is something for everyone to help out with at the lights. In addition, volunteers can make an even bigger contribution to lighthouse preservation through dedicated fundraising efforts that enable the DRBLHF to fund professionals to enact more complex and historically sensitive repairs at the three lighthouses. Mother Nature never takes a break and nor can the DRBLHF’s lighthouse preservation and fundraising efforts. We encourage you to become part of our team today – together we’ll leave the “light” on for future Delawareans!

Educational Programs

Though the Delaware River & Bay Lighthouse Foundation is dedicated to lighthouse preservation, by no means does the organization's efforts stop there. The DRBLHF also has developed a variety of educational programs that impact everyone in the community from our students to senior citizens.

In fact, a strong and unwavering commitment to community education is the only way to truly ensure the long-term preservation of Delaware's lighthouse heritage.

Whether the DRBLHF "brings the lighthouse" to the classroom and senior center or escorts children and the public on a one-of-a-kind offshore lighthouse experience, the commitment to convey the value and importance of saving Delaware's historic lighthouse remains paramount. Through diverse educational programs, the DRBLHF is cultivating an appreciation and understanding with our youth so that one day they too can become the proud caretakers of Delaware's lighthouse heritage.
